Patient Privacy

For information regarding how we protect your personal privacy and medical records, please review our full Patient Privacy Practices (PDF).

Each of the providers in this office normally cares for their own patients. We feel that by doing so, a much better physician-patient relationship can be established. It is also impossible for each of our providers to be individually familiar with all our patients. Therefore, we must request that when making appointments or inquiries, you specify which physician is treating you or whom you would like to see.

Our office is open from 7:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Patients are seen by appointment only. You may contact our office by dialing 828-264-4553.

Please allow one hour for you appointment. We ask for your understanding when you are requested to wait beyond your appointment time to see the doctor. We always take the amount of time appropriate to treat each patient, and some visits may take longer than planned. Emergencies pay no heed to our office schedule.

Parents or guardians should accompany minor children (under the age of 18) to the office. Legally we cannot treat a minor without consent of the parents or guardians. Please print the Authorization Consent form (PDF). This form must be filled out and signed by the parent or guardian before treatment of a minor.

Cancelling or Rescheduling Appointments (24 hours or more in advance)

If you make an appointment and are unable to keep it for any reason, please call as far in advance as possible so that we can use the time for other patients. If necessary, we will be more than happy to reschedule your appointment as needed.

Last Minute Cancellation/No Show Policy

Cancellations less than 24 hours ahead of time and No Shows disrupt the practice, and an unfilled slot is a lost chance to help another patient.   Please review our complete Cancellation/No Show policy.

Checking In and Waiting Period

When you arrive, our receptionist will ask you to verify your patient information detailed in your Patient Portal.  This data is important and relevant to your health and  physical status and is part of your permanent medical record.  All information in your medical record is confidential and is released only by written authorization from you.

Once the administrative details of your visit have been completed, you will be asked to have a seat in the reception room until called by name and escorted to an examining room. For the health and consideration of our patients, we request that you do not smoke.

Copays are expected at the time services are rendered. You may choose to pay our office by cash, personal check, money order, MasterCard, Visa or American Express.

If there is an unusual financial situation in your family, which causes your medical expenses to be difficult, please discuss this with our accounts receivable department when you are in the office.

Fees for services rendered are based upon the severity, complexity and nature of the problem as well as time involved in treatment. In many cases, our office will use an outside pathologist or lab. In this case, you will receive a separate bill from the pathologist or lab for any services they render. If you have questions regarding charges, please direct them to our billing department. We are always happy to discuss fees at any time, but this is normally done upon request. Statements on outstanding balances will be sent on a monthly basis.

Past Due Accounts

If your account becomes past due, and there is not a valid reason for your payment delay, we will take action to recover the amount due within 60 days of the initial billing. Please do not ignore the statements which your receive, but discuss the matter with us. If there is a legitimate reason for nonpayment, satisfactory arrangements can be made – but ONLY if we are aware of the problem.

Prescriptions and refills are issued during office hours only. During the evenings and weekends, it is difficult for the physicians to determine if a prescription or refill is indicated when they do not have your medical records in front of them. This means the physicians will not routinely write prescriptions or refills during the evening or weekends. The best method of having a prescription or refill issued is to have your pharmacist call our office and give us your name, the purpose of the needed prescription, and whether you have had a previous prescription with us. Please allow 48 hours for your prescription to be submitted.

Boone Dermatology Clinic accepts most forms of health insurance. However, due to the many different policies available today, it is up to the patient to determine if their procedure will be covered. This can be accomplished by contacting your insurance provider.

We will file up to 3 insurance companies per patient. Please understand that whatever health insurance you carry, the insurance company is not responsible to the physician for your bill. You are responsible to the physician, and the insurance company is responsible to you. It will be the patient' s responsibility to know what the insurance policy covers. If you have the insurance coverage, we will prepare and submit an insurance claim form to your insurance company. The form we use is one approved by the government and all major insurance companies. It should be acceptable to all insurance companies. If payment is received by us from more than one company, any overpayment will be refunded to you unless requested back by one of your insurance companies for coordination benefits. We will also file a cancer policy upon your request.
